When My Heart Broke … Poem by Bharat Trivedi

When My Heart Broke …

Once,
when morning was knocking
on the doors of night
I heard dawn whispering sweet nothings
in your diamond-studded ear
and you slept on the
satin sheets of silky slumber,
my heart broke
into countless fragments
of wrecked dreams…

On the sun-kissed beach,
I saw the wild zephyr
playing with your lustrous locks
while you lazed in a swaying hammock,
my heart broke
like a collapsed sand-castle
and scattered into various shells
on the salty shores…

Once, while walking hand in hand,
we heard thunderclap and skies turned grey!
As we hurried, I saw the flirtatious drops of rain
kissing your coral lips,
my heart broke
into streaming tears
and mingled with the muddy waters
on the streets…

In the middle of the night
I woke up and found
moon was fast asleep, besides you
on your feathery pillow,
my heart broke
into zillion shooting stars
and got lost in the vast expanse
of the cosmos…
