When We Break Human Made Law Poem by Francis Duggan

When We Break Human Made Law

When we break human made law the price we have to pay
But we rape and pillage Nature every day
We cut down her trees for development to make way
And no law against that such is seen as okay
Our survival depends on her since us she does feed
For our very existence our Earth Mother we need
She can live without us and on her we depend
Yet we do not treat her as we would a friend
If we break human made law that's a punishable crime
And for that we may live in prison for a long span of time
But when bureaucrats and government leaders abuse Mother Nature for their selfish gain
'Tis done in the name of progress to us they explain
But we are mere mortals and Nature lives on
And her Seasons have come and her Seasons have gone.
