When We Must Part Ways Poem by Cody O'Hara

When We Must Part Ways

When we must part ways
As all people do in time,
For nothing lasts forever,

Tears shall stream from
My eyes, and sobs catch
In my throat, choking me,

You are all so amazing
And whether you see it
Or the truth lies hidden

I value our friendships
Beyond simple measurement
In words which do not exist

I remember all the days
We shared together
And consider what we have left,

The laughs, and tears all sown
Together into a garment
Of memories we carry with us

And wear for protection,
As we traverse our own paths
Into the future, to warm our souls

They will become weathered
With age, but they shall remain
With us in our hearts always

Guiding us when we falter,
And lighting the way when
We feel lost in the world,

I thank you all for placing
A patch upon my own garment,
For adding a piece to my story,

I can only hope that I too
Have placed a patch of my own
Upon your garment also,

When the days comes, we shall part
But for now let us celebrate
The times we have left to share
