When We Were Friends Poem by Michael Peterson

When We Were Friends

When we were friends
I remember very well
It all started one summer day
In your backyard, we met
You a tomboy
Me, myself a spaz
We were amazing
2 peas in a pod
Friends forever, really
As the years went by
We went our ways, oh my
Feelings for you were deep
More than friends, I wanted
Seeing you from afar
Made me wonder
If I did it right, was it wrong?
You were like a sister, Family
A dear friend, a best friend
As we got older I knew
That we would be friends forever
We see one another from time to time
I would still drop a dime
Anytime for you
To see you cry the day your mom died
Broke my heart, to see your tears
I wanted to tell you so
But we are so far apart
Our lives so differently
Our friendship so dear
But remember this, my friend
I will be there for every tear
A smile, a hug, a lovely chat
For my heart will always melt for you
Till we meet again
Thanks for being a special friend
I would never trade our friendship for love
Because our love is special thru our friendship
See you in the rocker when we're old
To tell our stories of love and life
Truly your one special friend
