When You'Re Asleep (A Childhood Dream} Poem by Don Pengilly

When You'Re Asleep (A Childhood Dream}

Rating: 3.3

When you’re asleep
Does life go on
Or does it stop? I wonder
Have you ever stopped?
And thought
And had a little ponder

The things you’ve done
The night before
Are still there in the morning
No evidence that things have moved
While asleep
There’s been no warning

Yet when you were young
Milk teeth fell out
Mum said put them under bunny
A tooth fairy
Will come at night
And exchange them for some money

And what of Christmas
Now there’s a thing
Your told to sleep so tight
For some guy called
Father Christmas
Creeps around your bed at night

So what of sleepy nights
Between teeth and Christmas day
Have things moved? I ponder
Do fairies come to stay?
My things put back by morning
Will they come again,
They come without warning
With my toys they like to play DLP

(I wonder? Think I keep my eyes open tonight)
