Where Are You? Poem by Amelia Patterson

Where Are You?

A person sits down next to me.
Tree tops glisten,
And as my figure presses grass,
The wind fails to
Allow your essence to drift away.

Perhaps I am frustrating
For asking, but
When you left
Were you at ease?
Concerning me?

You told me how you felt
Yet your actions were contradictory.
Even though I do not
Share your state of mind,
Please. At least
Be courteous enough
To intrigue me with your words.

I cannot ask you
To slowly pour
Some of your former heart
Into a crystal vase for me
As a parting memento.

Now I lay here,
Wondering where you are
And if you are satisfied
Leaving me questioning,
As a golden sphere
Falls above us.
