Where I'M From Poem by serena dalton

Where I'M From

I was born into an indian heritage and raised with city girl looks,
To country gal songs
From a kindhearted mother to a bad-tempered father.
A broken family is what I came home to.
I'm from race don't matter, God loves us all
To daddy leaving, divorce, and custody
My world in a spinning fall
I'm from cheesecake for my birthday, and singin' in the church choir on Sunday
From homeschooling with mommy as the teacher
To public school with bullying as the nature
I'm from five siblings, screaming, and yelling
To bed-time story telling
From the stinch of fresh cut grass, to momma's sweet dreamsicle candles
I'm from hidin' pictures in between books, and climbing the old oak tree
But swinging into the sunset is my speciality
I'm from 'Pooh' and 'Nana' as the nicknames
To candyland and monopoly as the games
I'm from the teenage years of heartbreaks and haters
From cutting and tears, to smiles and cheers
I'm from working for fast food to gain responsibility, to reading The Hunger Games trilogy
Yeah, I'm from good times and struggles too,
But where I'm from that's the best for you
