Where Is The Cry Coming From? Poem by Ajay Seshadri

Where Is The Cry Coming From?

In this passage I sense the walls but I can't see them
I hope to find the windows somewhere but not to be
The only perception I get is one that's auditory.
There is a loud noise as though it had no beginning
It's a mystery for how did I suddenly come into being
Just to be able to hear this noise which to my ears is a cry
Just to be able to hear my voice uttering paranoid lies.
The shadow of a stranger I see in front of me
How can there be somebody when I don't know if I am?
I trace the light that throws this shadow to lead me to the cry
So that I may bring an end to it to lose nothing but just one try!
I move further in this passage with the glimpse of light
I see nothing but feathers of birds casting out an outline
I sketch creatures that I dread would haunt this shadow
But does the cry come from this unknown being
Whom neither joy nor pleasure had touched
Or from the end that it failed to reach
About which neither silence nor nonexistence could do much?
I trace the light that throws this shadow to lead me to the cry
So that I may bring an end to it to lose nothing but just one try!
Will I come out of this passage I don't know?
How can I when I'm in it I have to go?
I wish I could light a candle for the one giving out the cry
But I am myself in the darkness when I don't know why
I trace the light that throws this shadow to lead me to the cry
So that I may bring an end to it to lose nothing but just one try!
