It's like a song without notes...

And it takes a place (that is taken for granted) and puts it in an imaginative spotlight, like a child's mind would. A patch of grass! Made so lovely!

Love it.

an amazing expression of the creative forces that consume all creators of the world. A legendary piece of work. Silverstein is still sorely missed.

I remember the first time i read this i was in the 4th grade It's weird but I still remember what i was thinking when I read it It was where the little green grass people lived they had a town and little green families and i remember wanting to go there and meet them

My little brother commited suicide on 11/7/06 he was 32 years old and lost his battle against meth. in his belongings was a piece of paper that said *where the sidewalk ends-Tara/christmas*.... Tara is my daughter and she was his niece.]

I thought this poem was of suicide too...the place where the sidewalk ends is the step into death...the sidewalk is our path in life...and no matter how free we think we are we're limited because we grow older and imagination is lost.....the black smoke of bills and relationships and jobs and stress chokes us off from our true colors......while a boy or girl can dream of amazing things..we keep ourselves pressed by responsibilities and morals....so the arrows are the choice that having nothing is better than losing your childhood forever....the moon birds and crimson sky, the beauty behind one last look into an escape....and only the children will know when we go over the line that makes us innocent no more

If I commited suicide this would be my poem too

i think its pretty awesome. its like theres a place where only the kids can go because theyr young enough to have imagination but old enough to understand. they can see the world in reality with a little bit of imagination.
