While Away Another Day Poem by Eric Paeplow

While Away Another Day

Gazing out my window, to darkened skies,
even the heavens conspire against me
Left to my own devices, I might not even care,
but the world it seems, has a different idea
The ground now covered, with a fresh blanket of snow,
while the frost, now covers my window
The bitter cold, seeping through my sash,
as the fog now obscures my view

Spring turns to summer, summer turns to fall,
then at last, fall returns winter's glare
Gazing down upon me, with the cold eyes of fate,
drowning me with her darkened state
No embers glow, no warmth remains,
only ice and snow and cold winds blow
Left alone with my thoughts, left here in my darkened state,
left to endure my solitary fate

Hunger pangs trouble me not, I have no appetite,
no desire to eat, nor drink
In quiet repose I sit, my thoughts unbroken,
lost and alone in winter's cold clutch
The clouds, thick and grey, forming a dark blanket
over the world outside my window
No sunlight shown, no rays of light,
nothing left to do, but pull the covers in tight

Yet as I stare out at the frost covered sight,
I am overwhelmed by the rapt beauty of it all
The hush of silence fills my room,
as the snow flakes fall, each one in it's place
Cold and white is the sight that greets my eyes,
fed by great clouds of grey
So here I sit, here I'll stay,
in my darkened room,
to while away, yet another day
