While You Are Away, Sailor! Poem by Nancy CruzAyala

While You Are Away, Sailor!

Rating: 5.0

Son, as my sailor, it was time for you to leave to take care of your duties overseas

My heart felt like it was broken in little pieces. Knowing to see you, touch you, hug you, see that beautiful smile of yours, and simply see you taking naps in our couch will be impossible made my eyes just watery

As the limo pulled over to pick you up in that dark morning day, I wanted to just hold you and not let you go, but you had a goal for yourself

As the man I saw leave for that limo dressed in that spotless, well ironed, white uniform with black shiny shoes, looking charm and handsome and all grown up

I felt more than a happy mom, I was proud, excited but at the same time the little pieces of my broken heart started to get back together again only my thoughts were a lot clearer

My emotions knew that when you come back from being away, you will be back as a handsome, brave, mature, full with stories to share, and most important with a strong arm to hold, hug, touch and know that while you are away my son, Mom is here waiting for you to get home with open arms
