White Space Poem by Alfred Ramos

White Space

Did you read between the lines
In the last letter I wrote to you
Did you sense the gravity of the situation
When we just couldn’t say what’s true

With the truth disguised as an uncertainty
Every line I wrote laid heavy on my mind
Each breath I sighed away a mountain off my chest
The wet spots marked periods of us being so blind

Yes my tears were spilled page after page
Staining the brevity of our love affair
Can’t begin to describe the daunting rage
To give your all and still end up playing solitaire

To give your all and still fall
Does not stand up too well
I’d rather die trying
And still end up in hell

Did you read between the lines
Where the harshest words often reside
It’s all spelled out in rhymes
Where dubious tenderness tend to hide

Did you read between the lines
Or did you miss every clinging clue
Did you need red flags and alarm signs
Avoid the sidewalk cracks you surely step in pooh
