Whitney Poem by Richard Netherland Cook

Whitney

Died in a gun accident, Jan.,2008, Age 13

Sweet and lovely youthful flower,
Lost in such a tragic hour,
What overwhelming tide of sorrow,
Will flood our hearts with each tommorow.

With saddened hearts shall we trace,
Each feature of your smiling face,
For all our tears cannot restore,
The precious life that is no more.

Now dreams and hopes no longer stand,
Gone away into the silent land,
Only memories now to stir the hearts,
Of all who loved you from the start.

It is hard to reason why, or know,
Why your young life was taken so,
Your time on earth was all too brief,
And now our hearts are filled with grief.

Sweet memories now we have of you,
Of a heart so tender, so young and true,
Rest in peace our dear friend,
Until we all do meet again.

Written for my Granddaughter Katelyn.
