Who'll Be A Volunteerocrat? Dedicated to Norman Katz Shearer and his family

A volunteeronomist, volunteerologist
A volunteerosophist, I'd like to find.
So, who'll be a volunteerocrat
And a volunteer at that,
Who'll be a volunteer linguistically?
Who'll play volunteeropoly
With volunteericity?
Who'll eye volunteerometry
Quite volunteeronically?
Who'll entreat the volunteerees
To learn volunteer, expertise,
Only to find surprisingly,
A volunteer may suddenly be
A volunteer-put-to-sea
Yet, transmitting messages rejoicingly
Oscillographically!

poet James Whitcomb Riley

There! little girl; don't cry!
They have broken your doll, I know;
And your tea-set blue,
And your play-house, too,
Are things of the long ago;
