Why.... Poem by Mallika Achuthan Menon

Why....

Rating: 2.8

What I gained from this span of life,
I just made a survey on my conscience.
Compulsorily I had seen there
Two fine drawn columns
with headings that read,
Gains and losses respectively.
The former seemed like almost vacant,
and the latter appeared over flown.
None of them did bother me,
As I used to live in them
till this day in life.
How much time will be needed more
to cross the boundary of my lifetime?
I tried a lot to get an answer
but all my attempts ended in vain!

While on journey towards the future,
I had to meet with so many faces.
In them some were with glee, some looked gloomy,
A few were smudged with guile and envy.
There on the canvas of mind
Some of them I pasted nicely
The balance of them got pushed aside
to the rear side of my memory screen.
I imparted an equal love for them all
as it was my nature.
Interchange of love was not a need for them at all.
None of them showed outspokenness,
Sincereness was unknown to them.
Though they bestowed hurt and misery,
Why I could not forget them all?
I tried a lot to get an answer
but all my attempts ended in vain!

Love is sacred, thy name is worthwhile indeed!
We could not recount what is actual love,
It could be deemed only when we could go through it.
There are people with no erudition
of love and its many aspects in life.
They all appeared inconsistent
in this world for me.
Why such set of people is made by fate itself?
I tried a lot to get an answer
but all my attempts ended in vain!

The instability that the name is feminine!
No one can refute this fact.
A woman is always capricious
This dictum is not fictitious.
God has granted such a boon
to each and every female
which is known as feminity
and that is what her inner beauty.
At times somehow this feminineness
got entrapped in the hands of evil.
Consequently then it becomes
her own enemy without warning!
Why did this boon that meant for herself alter to a curse?
I tried a lot to get an answer
But all my attempts ended in vain!

A completion will always take place
In life circles of every female.
When she herself turns into
a mother of her own tot!
She can forgo her own life
for her offspring undoubtedly.
But once she becomes old and weak,
Why did her own children ignore her?
I tried a lot to get an answer
But all my attempts ended in vain!

There in my mind I have a drop box
where I kept aforementioned questions safely.
In a hope that I may get replies for all,
But when or how I do not know yet!

Life poses endless questions, finding answers is almost impossible! So go on with life as it comes and respond to life as it demands without ingnoring one's conscience and without losing self trust! Getting approval or love from everyone is a rosy dream. People are more prone to cause misery and hurt, inspite of our benevolent approach! A very philosophical introspection of life! !

A soul searching poem and mysticism seems to be a part of this poem being the feminine feelings it describes and such situations of negativity but there are enough opportunities and lucks in any circumstances or differences on life journey and the theme is taken up with such importance and wonderfully created it into a nice poem.

Being unable to get answers for the multiple creations of God, you keep a folder(drop box) in your mind which has a memory cord of 1000GB. The baby is born crying out making its mother happy but as grows he becomes reserved, inconsistent due to the contact he gets from humans and the environs.' Frailty they name is feminine'. As the woman is unstable, the things move on. Every stanza ends with your question. Philosophical!

The poem is a bit too long, but an honest soul searching. I agree with Valsa George in to to. @ Ed Nigma, As opposed to the man about whom you heard, I am very inquisitive and always ask a lot of questions. I am happy nonetheless, thank God!
