'Why? ' Poem by Joanie Tarr

'Why? '

My heart is tired, my tears are cold.
'It wasn't me' is getting old.
'I'm sorry' doesn't answer 'Why? '
It doesn't help to say 'I'll try'.
All I want is the full truth from you,
Not this circular reasoning that you do.
But now I see that I'll never get that
As you have swept it under the mat.
I've lost my reasoning before
Begging, pleading, asking for more.
My heart is tired, my tears are cold.
'It wasn't me' is getting old.
Time for me to walk away again
Or lose my mind and go insane.
'I'm sorry' doesn't answer 'Why? '
It doesn't help to say 'I'll try'.
