Why Do I Love You? Poem by Doug Bri

Why Do I Love You?

I love you
But why do I love you?
I can no longer go on without hearing your voice at least twice a day
Holding on to you so closely
From the moments that we both share,
Where you got to know me better then I knew myself,
The times I made a mistake, and you helped me correct them without uttering a single word
The minutes you spent on the phone with me
The hours we spent out hitting the city
The countless days we spent together without judging one another

Why do I love you?
The softness of your voice brings my guards up
While it impulses me to show you tender affection
While my heart demands i give you my undivided attention

The friendship that we share,
Seems like a fantasy, even when we disagree you stand behind me,
When you know that I'm wrong you guide me.
Patience is what you squeeze out of me,
While my love and affection come pouring out of me,

Why do I love you?
Why is it that your touch rejuvenates me?
Why is it that your voice enlightens me?
Why is it when i hear your goals i grow a desire to help you accomplish them?
When was it that you took my heart without me realizing it?
When was it that i gazed into your eyes and saw my reflection, and you saw yours in mines?
When was it that we held hands for the first time and wished we never had to let go?

Even after all of this meditation all i know is that i love you.
