Why Does Thou Weep? Poem by Deidre Alyssa Hopenburge

Why Does Thou Weep?

Why does thou weep, silent child?
Has thee's father gone off to battle, to return never again?
Has thee's mother become angry at thee, ingnoring 'til the morrow?
Why does thou weep, silent child?
Nay, Poppa hasn't gone to war and Momma hasn't gotten upset with me.
I weep for the lives of my siblings, babies three.
They passed the Golden Gates last night.
That is why I, silent child, weep.
