Why I Hate You Poem by Nick Downer

Why I Hate You

Because you left footprints in the snow as you left
Because you never looked back once
Because you never even said goodbye
Because when you packed your bags you took my heart
Because wherever I look I see your ghost
Because the wing will whisper your name forever and,
Because your scent still lingers on my pillow
Because in my mind you’re God and
Because you don’t deserve to be seen as such
Because you fill my sleepless dreams
Because I don’t fill yours
Because you left me to pick up the pieces of my heart
Because you expected me to move on
Because I can’t move on
Because you made me feel alive and worthwhile
Because you acted like I meant something to you and,
Because I don’t think I ever really did
Because I still hang on to you
Like you’re a rope hanging off a cliff.
Because you no longer tell me I’m beautiful
Because you were the air I breathed and now,
you’ve left me to choke.
Because you used to care if I was around but now,
You don’t care if I say I feel like killing myself.
Because you made me feel safe, warm, happy
Because now all I feel is pain
Because you left me to face the world alone,
Without you, and you know I hate being alone.
Because you left so easily and a year later,
I’m still stuck on you.
