Why Must I Pay A Price? Poem by Franklin Spriggs

Why Must I Pay A Price?

Why must I pay a price?
For that which I did not do,
To try to get you on your way,
To help to see you through.

My heart is in much despair,
You have broken it once or twice,
But can you please tell me,
Why must I pay a price?

The years have come, the years have gone,
I raised you up to face this life,
Why have things be fallen me,
Why must I pay a price?

You chose your road to travel,
As you go down this highway of life,
I gave you counsel as best I could,
But why must I pay a price?

Why are my words meaningless,
I would hope you would take my advice,
But you desire to go your own way,
But why must I pay the price?
