Why Should I Fear Death Poem by Francis Duggan

Why Should I Fear Death

Though from religious zealots of damnation we hear
Why should i fear death when there is nothing to fear
Save the thought of dying and the nothingness of death
And the thought of the pain one might feel before life's final breath.

Why should i fear death when it i cannot avoid
From the scythe of the reaper there is nowhere to hide
But if by chance there is a hereafter of hell
All I'd ask for is for paper and pen for to pen doggerel.

Why should i fear death a mere mortal such as i
When 'tis part of life we are born for to die
Our best days go quickly and time ticks away
And every day one day nearer to our final day.

Why should i fear death when life is hard enough
Though i did hang in there when the going was tough
I've had a good life though time has left me gray
And may the last day be the hardest as a wise one did say.
