Why Should You Have The Mouth?



O' mind! You don't sever the desire! You don't leave the bond!
..You don't perform the necessary prayer of Lord Siva,
You don't think of the ‘five letters' with affection - chee chee,
..You don't avoid the anger, you wouldn't chant
The songs of virtue! Why should you have the mouth?

Note:

Five letters (Na Ma Si Vaa Ya) are the mantra of chanting and praying Lord Shiva in Hinduism.

chee chee - are the letter of disgust

This poem 'Why should you have the mouth? ' is a translation by me of a poem from Tamil literature 'sivabOka saaram'

ஆசையறாய், பாச(ம்) விடாய், ஆனசிவ பூசைபண்ணாய்,
நேசமுடன் ஐந்தெழுத்தை நீநினையாய் - சீசீ
சினமே தவிராய், திருமுறைகள் ஓதாய்
மனமே! உனக்கென்ன வாய். (பாடல் 138) - சிவபோகசாரம்
