Wild Nights Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Wild Nights

Wild nights
What wild nights
I’ll give to thee
If you will but
Give yourself over to me!

Lost in the tempest
Tossed by the sea,
I’ll guide you to safety
If you’ll follow me!

Why won’t you listen?
Why don’t you see?
Our futures are tied up
I’m your destiny.

I’ll be your savior.
I’ll be your slave.
I’ll be your haven.
I’ll be your waves.

Oh Captain!
My Captain!
This ship may be yours,
But I am the one who has called up this storm.

So, Captain, my captain, which will it be?
Will you wed me tonight by the light of the moon?
Or shall I send you and your men to their doom?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was reading Emily Dickinson and I guess I mixed in some Walt Whitman, some stories about storms at sea.
