Will You Allow Me To Court Her? Poem by Obed dela Cruz

Will You Allow Me To Court Her?

I have watched her for four years now,
Surviving the heartbreaks that came along
Because I could not break the vow
Of loyalty I pledged, lest I be wrong.

They say that it’s the Trinity
Who must be at the center of all love;
For that reason, my fealty
Was willingly announced as Yours thereof.

My heart acknowledges the fact
Of Your ascendance on each circumstance.
Should I make choices without tact,
You may–if You will–grant me one more chance.

But it seems there is much to risk
If I shall betray my word of honor
Simply because of ardent brisk
In treason ‘gainst the God of love and war!

Your plans include my happiness
Though it may sometimes mean temporal pain.
I love her, and this I confess
But, O God, Your will is eternal gain!
