sun shines through windows we used to look out as children waiting for our dad to come up the walk that I skinned my knee on when my brother and I got in a fight
like the fights between our mom and dad when the silence didn’t end after the door slammed and dad’s car sped away and he stopped sleeping at home
at first the visits were frequent as time went by we saw him less and less then it was just weekends just holidays
now there’s a new family a new mom a new brother a new sister no room for the old family
I still sit in front of that window waiting to see the tan car pull up see my dad walking up the steps giving me a hug and saying “I’ve come home”
