Wings Poem by Kate Austin

Wings

</>wings like these don't grow on their own
they're from fear and hope, the love that's grown
that love that I see in your eyes, it's paper thin
I can see all your thoughts under your skin

I'm not good anymore, that's what you think
you've pushed me to the edge, I'm on the brink
these wings I have, they're perfectly new
you've never seen me, the first time that I flew

these chemicals in my brain, they make me stronger
in the fight we're having, I can last a lot longer
I know all the ropes, your tricky ways
and yet your lies never cease to amaze

you're my kryptonite, my double edged blade
I'm the one you deny that you made
how could this creature be yours, this thing
yet you're always the best, you're always the king

you know, even heroes have to sleep
not everything has to be done in a flying leap
chase the dragon tomorrow and leave the princess be
there's more to life than climbing the tallest tree

I may be disturbed and i may be broken
you'll remember the words that I've spoken
I'm not going anywhere, I'll be here till you die
but for now I'll settle for touching the sky
