Winter Trees Poem by Charl JF Cilliers

Winter Trees

Let us say I walked by
a short time after
the leaves began to fall.

Let us say the poem
now stands leafless,
unadorned, letting

more light shine through
bare branches (Spring was
so full of green!)

Let us say I once loved
the green tree
and all its leafiness,

I who planted and nurtured
it. Let us just say I also know
now how a tree in autumn glows.
