Women Poem by Linda Napoli

Women

Women of old- lifting the load;
carrying, gathering, threshing,
kneading, nursing, sewing.
Bearing the burdens, bent, with child,
Reaching forward, one more step, fearful,
brave.

Mothers, daughters, sisters, wives,
living their lives- chased, chaste.
Forward one more step- seeking, waiting.

Women of new times- racing, pacing.
Shaking free from toil, drudgery left behind
Gold, freedom ahead- searching ever higher
Searching for their center, fearful, brave
waiting.

Knowing not for what, the secret hidden.

Very good Linda - summarizes the situation for women at various points in history, and now we are moving on to better things, for most at least. There are still those who remain oppressed. Enjoyed reading.
