Words To Mum

When I lost you
I thought it was the end
I didn’t only lose a mother
I lost my greatest friend

I remember our long chats
Your crazy dance moves
Our jokes and our laughs
I remember everything
Even our spats

I see it both ways taken too young, but yet you are free
Free from the pain of it, free from the misery
But then there’s the new pain as we never got our goodbyes
For you left us alone, left us all but mostly Danny and me
But again you’re free to be whoever you want to be

I thought we had longer, many more years to come
And I think of it all as I visit you often in your early bed of rest
How you were taken too early, but again you are free
But how could you leave us, sorry for being selfish
But not once did I get to say the following words
The ones of you’re the greatest and that I love you mum
