Writing About Pain Poem by Michelle Dickson

I have come to a realization
That pain is my focus
That it is all I can seem to write about

I’ve tried to write
About happiness and love
But the words don’t seem to flow

It seems as though
The words won’t flow
Because I have no experience with them

Yes, I’ve had happiness for a time
Yes, I’ve had love for a minute
But that doesn’t seem to be enough

It seems as though
The words are telling me to go
And find what I wish to have

But every time I go to write
To see if the words flow this time
They never seem to come out right

Am I doing something wrong?
Am I not putting in the effort?
What can I do to write about something that’s painless?
