You Are Forgotten Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

You Are Forgotten

Rating: 5.0

Gandhiji* you are forgotten
Your ideology is hijacked and stolen
Seldom have we remembered you even
By and large you are completely gone

You are stranger in your own land
You are lone figure without any friend
You are remembered for going on strike
Demonstrations against pay rise or on price hike

"We follow Ghandhian principles" remains popular slogan
We are true followers and disciples
Only we grab in millions
Still we wear your cap and keep affiliation

Millions rot in streets and die hungry
Population is accustomed to and never go angry
We have money power to purchase votes and remain in power
Tones of grain go in waste as they await rainy showers

Grain must rot but should not go to needy
We will spend billions and still ready
To waste more on plans and developments
With all the care that poor get nothing and resent

You advocated that parties should disband
Power centre should be based at village land
We preferred old slave symbol and maintained status
So in name we are democratic but capitalist as such

Let farmers commit suicide and public properties burn
Let accidents take place and thousands die in turn
We are only interested in amassing wealth
Let public go to hell with their poor health

Gandhiji* we never miss you but in fact garland
Your statue is erected and carved out on sand
You are gone forever but we have monopolized
Gandhian pattern as only excuse to wash ills and stay obliged

Don't shed tears even by mistake as we are committed people
Whole nation lives on borrowed economy and face any trouble
Our national wealth is safe in foreign land as black money
We are the nation next to only few corrupt countries yet hold the key

* Gandhiji… father of Indian nation and popularly known as Gandhiji

Malkeet Kaur He's my hero too. I remember being a Gandhian ever since I was i kid. In fact my first poem in Hindi written in fourth standard was on him and later too as I kept writing in hindi till twelfth std he was the inspiration behind many of my poems... About the degradation of values that he advocated... Thanx for this poem! 12 seconds ago via mobile · Like
