You Are Happy To Be Alive Poem by Shalom Freedman

You Are Happy To Be Alive

YOU ARE HAPPY TO BE ALIVE

You are happy to be alive
In a way you were not
When you were young
Then there were too many doubts and struggles
Too much ‘trying to become'
Now you know yourself
You are not the greatest
You are ordinary in so many ways
Many old men sound and look and laugh like you
Many other mediocrities have gone to their graves unknown
Its okay
You are alright with your own failure
You still try
But it doesn't matter much
You are happy to be alive
You enjoy all the small pleasures of life
You love the family
You love the home Jerusalem the land of Israel
Just being where you are
Its OK
You weren't and will not be the greatest
You have had a life
You are happy to be alive
Each day
Day by day
If you are not sick
And there is not a disaster
Just happy to be alive
