You Changed Me Poem by Dan Brown

You Changed Me

You held me close and stroked my hair -
promised you’d be all you could be.
You swore we’d stay together there
- don’t you remember changing me?

I trusted you and I gave you the lead
yet still, incredibly, you failed to see
that I already had all I could need
because I remember you changing me.

You lay me down and spoke soft words
to encourage me to be free.
My feelings flew like once-caged birds
- don’t you remember changing me?

I sincerely hope we will meet again
and we’re not once more parted by sea.
I take heart, however, that – if and when -
we will both remember you changing me.
