You Gave Me Life Poem by Mustafa Marconi

You Gave Me Life

You gave me life
So I could die
Stacked the deck against me
And tricked me into believing
That everything good was only by your grace
And every bad turn was solely on me
You sit atop of your mountain
High in the sky
And allow the massacre of millions upon millions of people
Allowing man to wage war on one another
Allowing innocent casualties of your choosing
To be raped, butchered, pillaged, and dominated
For reasons that somehow inspires more belief and devotion
Cause behind every catastrophe lies a lesson
A lesson about blind faith,
Disingenuous convictions,
Fanaticism and unreciprocated loyalty

You gave me life
To watch me suffer
Gave my enemies all of the rich, prime soil
And threw in my sweat to till his land and harvest his crops
As he slowly beats me back to the dust from which I came
You assured me that Heaven awaits me with open arms
That hell will be filled with the transgressors
That my sufferings will not be in vain
But my oppressors are enjoying their Heaven right now
They wear the fruits of their greed, treachery and wickedness
As an badge of honor
And use their status to enjoy celebrity and fame
The tragic results of slavery, racism, and discrimination
Has left me miles behind the starting line
Burdened by the psychological weight
Of 400 years of mental, physical and emotional lashes
My tears have all dried up
As my prayers continue to go unanswered

You gave me life
So I can die
Burdened me with all the guilt that comes with everyday living
For like all men, I too was born in sin
You are the All knowing, All encompassing power
Who has sentence so many to a life of misery and pain
Allowing your children to be raped, butchered, massacred, and oppressed
For reasons that sane minds will never understand
Blessing us with brilliant theologians and biblical philosophers
From every faith and denomination
With an uncanny, and amazing ability to anesthetize
Billions of minds, bodies, and souls
With your holy words
For everything good man experiences is only by your grace
And every bad turn is either a testament to our lack of faith
Or a spiritual test to make us stronger
Allowing innocent casualties of your choosing
To endure generational affliction and suffering
For reasons that insanely inspires more belief and devotion
Cause behind every catastrophe lies a lesson
A lesson about blind faith,
Disingenuous convictions,
Fanaticism and unreciprocated loyalty
