You Must Escape

You must escape you need to flee
I too was once so young
So many traps were set for me
So many songs unsung

The devil had me in his sight
He’d planned my life so well
Flaunting the daunting city lights
That paves the way to hell

I took the bait just like a fool
Seeking for wealth and fame
I broke in life most every rule
And felt thereby no shame

For yet a while the devil’s way
Brought riches sweet and fine
Seductively he led astray
Through lust and wayward wine

With great delight I drank his brew
His meat I ate at will
Yet still for more I would pursue
Seeking in vain my fill

With broken heart with aching head
So pitiful a state
Totally lost so near as dead
I saw to change my fate

I saw the love of God walk by
Christ’s servant on the street
I saw the glint within his eye
When helping to my feet

That day I saw The Truth my friend
The same I now impart
Receive with love what God would send
To heal your broken heart
