You Only Exist Poem by Joanne Teague

You Only Exist

Rating: 3.5

Beguiling eyes. Stains of wretchedness.
A stone-cold disguise. Facades of decadence.

No wonder we only exist.

Empire of lies. The bondage we resist.
Existential crisis. Be careful of your wish.

No wonder we only exist.

Mistranslating metaphors.
Giving way to holy wars.
A long-forgotten parable.
Is this what the anguish is for?

No wonder we only exist

You're alive to live
but apparently you've missed
the point of this
Defined by your sins.

If for once you would
just stop and listen.
Instead, you run your lips.
Look inside.
Breathe in life.
Climb the vines &
Leave behind
selfish wantonness.

But if you spuriously live
by what is held and seen -
have never walked against harsh winds,
then you've never really lived.

No wonder you only exist.

Thank you, everyone, for your encouraging comments. I appreciate it very much! I'm not sure why I'm just getting my first notifications of comments just now. *shrug* oh well. I guess I should publish some more!

A well-written piece. I like your short lines and apt punctuation.10/10...

A uniquely stated and thoughtfully presented truth ~ I like your honesty and presentation of a subject, difficult to present without offence... none offered but facts, that most would probably not hesitate to agree with...

I like this very much, Joanne. The flow is as harsh and strong as the words. Nicely done.
