Young And In Love Poem by David Beckham

Young And In Love

Rating: 5.0

These things I did several nights in this sequence
First I’d say “Good night Hilary”
Then blow you a kiss, and hope it got to you
Finally I’d close my eyes and count to ten
And hope you’d be in my dream that night

I was young and yes, I was in love
My social skills were totally unconvincing
It meant my best chances to be with you, exists only in my imagination
I guess I could have slipped you a note in class
But it would hurt, if I found out you didn’t like me

So every night, I said those 3 words, “Good night Hilary” …
3 words to hopefully set me off on a trajectory from” this life” to “that life”
I lived in my dreams you see, everything in it was real
I said 'Kiss good night, counted to ten' and eyes closed
Curtains drawn, lights out, fingers crossed and... am out!

And so finally one day it happened
Yes it did, and in a strange wonderful world I did emerge
There was no measure of time or of day or night
We were forever young and forever beautiful
And here, life and love were FOR-never ending
You liked me and we were best friends

But the works of man 'oh dear' - such evil thing! It caused my eyes to open wide
My 6 o’clock alarm went off and my sweet dream snatched away from me
Back to life; back to reality
And I laid there wide awake, not sure I’d see you again in my dream
Minutes passed and slowly I felt my pillow covered with tears.
