Young Sailor Poem by Ima Ryma

Young Sailor

A plane carried a family
Homeward bound, but did crash instead,
In a rural locality.
All of the family were dead,
Save Sailor, the 7 year old
Daughter, who crawled from the debris,
And walked alone through dark and cold,
Toward a far light that she could see.
Four thousand feet of tough terrain,
Barefoot, bloody and broken bone,
She made her way through all the pain
To help - to where the light had shown.

Sailor walked from sad death and strife,
Struggling but determined to life.
