Young-Term Love Poem by Sean Furlong

Young-Term Love

'Let that boy be, he's with me'
said the schoolgirl to the teacher
All the love in the world
couldn't help the boy to reach her
Dragged away to detention hall
for reasons unjust, she was sure of
Earlier that day they'd had a ball
though it ended abruptly with a shove
In retrospect she liked the kiss
despite regretting her reaction
He left her a feeling that she missed
somehow she knew that more was in store
that first taste, but only a fraction.

She'd wait for him that day after school
for the engine that is her heart
now ran on a new kind of fuel
A longing for closeness was born
that fair Thursday afternoon
Before their tryst had been shorn
a budding love would then soon bloom.
