Your Freckles Poem by Grace England

Your Freckles

Your freckles make up constellations

A star chart to our lives

You’re the goddess of my sky

The compass to my map

I want to connect every last one

And write a story

I want to take a red ink pen

And mark in every choice you’ve made

Every step, every breath

Every hour spent crying

Over her last one

I want to write your ballad

Across your body in the best

Cheap pen I can afford

And damn it’ll be like the Iliad

And the Odyssey

Because you’re a modern day hero

With the world on your shoulders

And a long way to home

Your image demands to be burned

Into the cosmos

Where every kid with wanderlust in their eyes

Can look up in wonder and wonder

What stories you have to tell

But just for now

Your freckles make up

My entire night sky
