Yukon Ice Storm Poem by Marilyn Lott

Yukon Ice Storm

It was unmerciful as it came in
Yukon weather changed drastically
It started as a typical winter
But stayed frozen for days, you see

Yes, the winter of 2007
Is one we won’t soon forget
Cold and vicious and nasty
A storm that’s not quite over yet

We were unable even to leave
Trapped in our homes we were
Unsafe to step out on the streets
The roads were an icy blur

Our world at Spanish Cove
Was looking unlike itself
And our lives were put on hold
Like being put on top of a shelf

And then finally it started to warm
The ice slowly began to melt
Objects looked like they used to
Happiness is what we felt

So try not to worry, folks
If an ice storm goes astray
Eventually temperatures will change
Your world won’t stay that way!
