Haunting Memories Of Ueno Station, Tokyo,1946 - Poem by Stanley Cooper

Orphaned children
Hungry
Scavenging
Lost
Pleading
Chocoletto. ..Cigaretto

Haggard
Hollowed cheeks
Vacant eyed
Lifeless
Pleading
Chocoletto...Ciga retto

Horrors of war
Pain
Agony
Aged children
Pleading
Chocoletto...Cigaretto

Moving piece Stanley. You manage, with skillfull economy of words, to capture the devastation unleashed on Japan after the war. I admire the way that this is not preachy and that you allow the reader to decide themselves.

'Chocoletto...Cigaretto', it's strange that the desire for the least important things becomes powerful in our desperation. It's almost as if it is the little things we need to remind us that we are human. (Report) Reply
