Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night - Poem by Dylan Thomas

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on that sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

One Truly has to watch a loved one in their final hour-mins to understand the intensity of the Writers desperation, as his beloved Father is drifting away! !
Those of us who have, will know the feelings and emotions invoked, the selfishness our minds implore, as we cry out, to God or just scream in our minds..NO NO NO Please..Fight, Stay, please please dont go..
If it were ourselves, and we could write our feelings before we passed, this poem would read completely the opposite for those who WISH to quietly and peacefully slip away!
If you have ever seen someone who Does NOT go gentle, into that Goodnight, it is a shocking and pitiful sight, as mankind starts his final deathroll as it is known, as he Struggles against the inevitable..
To NOT go gentle into that Goodnight, is to leave with torment upon our brow, anguish on our countenance, therefore Mr Dylan Thomas, who was at the time emotional as are all Poets, if he looked upon his Fathers Death mask, I hope he saw that his father, IGNORED his plea's. Thomas in his own way is warning us!
Let them go Gentle into that Goodnight, it is the most loving gift you can give, help them to go gentle into that goodnight! ! ! ! ! ! (Report) Reply

Dylan Thomas was writing a poem about humanities right to leave a morsel of your existence on this life plain, and not to go without having done something useful with your existence. Do something with your life, don't waste it. (Report) Reply
