    Growing Up

    A toddler I was once; crawling with pride,
    Looking at the wonders of the world
    Through my eyes clouded with innocence.
    Evil I did not know then,
    Feeling secure in my mother’s arms

    Growing up to a child was no different.
    With my first instinct to trust anyone’s smile,
    Genuine or otherwise was not my concern.
    But obstinate to get what I wanted, and
    Wishing everything to be the way I preferred it to be

    Along with teenage came unknown sensations-
    Taking a peek at him not understanding why;
    Being egotistic in my acts to be the center of the universe;
    Always anxious of being caught for my dishonesty,
    Pathetic lies began to escape my lips.

    Then what was left of my innocence was lost.
    Taking contentment from tears of others
    Greed and selfishness dominating my thoughts.
