Ode to Karen and the Summer

June wore her green dress, long her favorite color
the color of her ancient Roman clan
    Roman Green
June wore her green dress...as my finger traced a soft essay
    upon your perfect back

    June wore green
    Karen wore blonde
and all around us was light

the solstice was the turning point- solstice curve
poignant as the course of the sun through our summer bodies

the season of the short-lived beings
dead through the dry folds of winter
to flood to life in green vigor
I'm green as a frog, green as any new bug rushing or Mayfly lingering

June's nephews, July and August, were lulled to boredom
    by wine and soft days
    and left us the blessing
to wallop and play in the gardens

    Karen on a summer sidewalk
    or a tv show
or a dream in the light
or green eyes read more »

    Poor Little Bug

Poor little june bug floatin' in the pond
Poor little june bug not too fond
Of the water that he's floatin' on

    Idle in June

She dares not let the world hear her speak,
She's getting thin and looking meek,
A grey hair is splitting in her widows peak
She lays idle in the month of June. read more »

    One Day in June

Amidst the hills full and lonely
I walked the ragged paths and stumbled stones,
Looking for a kind of longing,
A memory of that one day in June so long ago. read more »

    1963 Looking Back

Memories let their June days fall apart
and leave behind the rains which rushed
rivers into torrents. Its just the sun we see
and the turn of the landscapes into harvest-tide fields. read more »
