The Music - Poem by David Lovell

John for his entire life had loved music;
The old hymns of his church were his therapy when Homesick.

He always imagined what it would be like to hear heaven's angel choir;
To hear an encore of the song sung at Christ's birth was a great desire

John prayed, 'Dear Lord, when my time is almost wound down,
Let me know I'm nearing Home by hearing in the distance the heavenly sounds.'

'Do you hear the music? ', John asked Nathan one night.
'I hear no music, ' Nathan said, 'try as I might.'

'Do you hear the music? ' John inquired of his sister the next day.
'You're going crazy, ' she laughed, 'I hear none, try as I may.'

'Do you hear the music? ' John queried his doctor at his visit.
'I hear nothing; ' he declared, 'it must be your ears ringing; that's it.'

Later that day, John passed on and as people passed at his casket,
It was then that they noticed that the silence was unnaturally quiet.
