The Road Not Taken - Poem by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

    Apparently, Frost's poet friend, Thomas, was in a pickle about what to do with his life and Frost wrote this little gem as a jest, IOW, kind of making fun of Thomas. The poem literally makes little sense. Absurd, like Thomas stewing about his own life. You may not like this, but it is not really about being very, very careful to make the right decisions in your life. No, not at all. As another commenter said, and Frost himself said, this is a very tricky poem. Let it go. (Report) Reply

    Man is a perplexed animal, always bisected, could not find out the right way, or the way found does not satisfy, could not understand what to be done. In the poem the poet has depicted the natutal state of mind of human beings....10 (Report) Reply
