Holding the one flower he sees.
Just hoping for time to pass away,

I met a beauty yesterday.
She smiled at me and walked away.
That's what I saw, in any case,
The others didn't see her face.

Old Man's Rose

I can imagine an old man standing in a meadow,
Holding the one flower he sees.
Just hoping for time to pass away,
But for the rose to stay the same.

Sometimes people tend to stop going,
Though the path is right ahead.
Why go blindly forth,
Just to miss the end?
Embrace the night, for the sun has set.
Walk the yard, dress up your friend.
In darkness no one casts a shadow.

If you've been struck in the battle,
Don't stand shivering.
Pass the enemy your sword, and claim:
'Now I am truly real! '

If there really is a god up there,
I think he's the one seeing in black and white.
He's living right next to the sun,
But reaching for the moon.

And when your friend one day is lying in the bed,
Holding a rose to her chest.
And you are watching a tear on her cheek,
Just so you don't have to look her in her grey eyes.
When she suddenly draws her last breath,
And you look inside her withered eyes,
You will hear yourself whisper:
'You are you, me and everything! '

In the end the rose will wither in the old man's hand,
And he will feel a youth fill him.
He's lying down in the meadow with his flower.
And then I'm gone.
