Quotations From CASEY HAYDEN

  • 1.
You can't talk about a kind of democracy unless those who are affected by decisions make those decisions whether the institutions in question be the welfare department, the university, the factory, the farm, the neighborhood, the country.
Casey Hayden (b. c. 1940), U.S. social and political activist. As quoted in American Women in the 1960s, ch. 6, by Blanche Linden-Ward and Carol Hurd Green (1993). Hayden said this in the 1960s. She was an activist in the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the Economic Research and Action Project (ERAP) sponsored by the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). ERAP organized the inner-city poor to better their conditions through political activism.
