Sixty One

Sixty flames of emanating light,
Cast shadows across four walls.
Sixty flames illuminate the night,
Jealous; the lonely moon mourns.

Sixty, precious, winking flames,
A sight to melt most frozen of heart.
Tipsy guesses for the last shrinking rays,
Excitement felt in rosy lips that part.

Meanwhile the bemoaning, naked night,
Searches for its lost stars.
We smile, unknowing and revel in delight,
At the pilfered jewels, that be only ours.

The heavens outside, no more adorned
With bright ornaments aglow.
Instead inside, only we are warmed,
by what sixty stars bestow.

But the brightest of all, with no shade of any doubt,
Was all night, the one closest by.
All sixty were dwarfed and when they'd all burned out
You enlightened the giant night's sky.

Sixty one stole the stars and scattered them,
all autumn perfumed.
Sixty one stole the show, a pattern arrangement,
The cosmos strewn all in one room.

So stark and bare, all the sky's works of art;
Vanished, tattered, all gone.

Sky dark, moment rare, the starless night fell apart;
We kissed, nothing mattered...

Nothing but Sixty One
